WIN TV News Western Australia reports that Geraldton Meat Exports is one of three finalists in the National Awards for Employment Excellence, recognised for its dedication to helping disadvantaged job seekers secure work.
The awards will be announced in Sydney tonight. Hadley Baquot, Quality Manager says the judges recognised the company's diversity and employment of Indigenous and disadvantaged workers. Over the past few months 65 former job seekers have been employed at the abattoir, which has also established a bus service to help employees get to and from work each day. Baquot says the Salvation Army Employment Plus helped them to set this up. The abattoir reopened recently after a stoppage due to dwindling sheep and goat numbers.
