Timber workers made redundant with the closure of the Maxwell's Creek timber mill near Dungog have been encouraged to keep an open mind about their future.
Not-for-profit employment agency The Salvation Army Employment Plus is providing assistance to the retrenched workers.
The agency visited the timber mill the day after the closure was announced and has partnered with Skilled Workforce to find new jobs for two of the workers.
It is also holding one-one interviews with the former mill workers to develop individual plans to help them back into work, including labouring positions in civil construction.
"Being made redundant can be very difficult, and it's important that people consider all the opportunities available to them, whether that be training for a new role, up-skilling for a similar role or keeping an open mind about the possibility of going into another industry altogether," TSAEP's Kirrilee Trist said.
"Being a part of the Salvation Army we can also quickly connect people with a huge range of support services if they need them for food, clothing or counselling and of course we work very closely with Centrelink and potential local employers."
