Disability Employment Services

What are Disability Employment Services?

Disability Employment Services (DES) is a Federal Government program, created to deliver more effective employment assistance for job seekers with a disability, health or medical condition.

The program involves services not only for people with disability, but also their families, carers and employers.

Thanks to DES, job seekers with a disability have immediate access to tailored services that are flexible and responsive to both their needs and those of employers.

TSAEP is one of a number of organisations which deliver DES on behalf of the Federal Government, providing participants with;

·         integrated, individualised assistance

·         extensive and ongoing employment services

·         one-on-one support

·         referral to other agencies and community groups

·         links to education providers

Accessing DES
People wishing to access DES  need to be assessed by Centrelink or CRS Australia, and TSAEP can assist you with this.

DES is divided into two arms;

Disability Management Service - for job seekers with disability, injury or health condition who require additional assistance but who are not expected to need long-term support in the workplace.

Employment Support Service - for job seekers with permanent disability and with an assessed need for more long-term, regular ongoing support in the workplace.

The assessment will also determine which of these services is most appropriate to assist you to find work.
Following this, TSAEP will provide you with a personal consultant who will work with you to help you reach your individual employment goals.

This will involve;

·         Job search assistance and skills - to help you obtain suitable, sustainable employment.

·         Assessments - to help set employment goals and plans, monitor progress and to work out when you are ready for the next step.

·         Counselling / Personal support - this includes vocational guidance, assistance, encouragement, building self-esteem and confidence.

·         Referral and advocacy - helping to link into the local community and access to health or other services.

·         Practical support - for instance, assistance to attend interviews or payment for training.

·         Outreach activities - to assist participants living in remote areas, or who have special needs.

At TSAEP, we know everyone is different so everyone we work with has their own program which best suits their individual needs.

As your DES provider we will help you;

·         With your personal and professional development.

·         To work out what you can and want to do.

·         To work out what sort of help you need.

·         If you have special needs or live far away.

You can visit us or you can meet with your consultant where you feel comfortable e.g. the local coffee shop or drop-in centre. The sites where DES are offered are Moonee Ponds, Tweed Heads South, Marrickville and Surry Hills.
