Vanessa
Vanessa had always wanted to work in the police force but suffered from very low self-confidence and she lacked many of the qualifications required to join the force. Her life skills were also letting her down. The Salvation Army Employment Plus enrolled Vanessa in a number of relevant training courses and provided plenty of encouragement, helping her to obtain the specific skills she needed to gain entry into the police force. At the same time we helped build her confidence. The Salvation Army Employment Plus referred Vanessa to an administrative traineeship at a local police station for which she successfully applied. Vanessa was accepted, supported and encouraged by the staff at the station who were impressed with the way that she worked. Towards the end of the traineeship Vanessa was offered a position within the Queensland Police Force’s Indigenous Traineeship Program, which will lead to Vanessa becoming a full-time Queensland police officer. With our help, the police have gained a valuable employee and Vanessa is realising her dream.
