Additional Benefits
Remuneration and Recognition Pay Plan
The remuneration policy and Recognition Pay Plan (RPP) offered by The Salvation Army Employment Plus aims to recruit, motivate, retain and reward staff who work and perform in line with the mission and values of The Salvation Army Employment Plus. At The Salvation Army Employment Plus the remuneration policy and RPP are both aligned with our mission of providing quality employment services to those most affected by unemployment.
The RPP is accessible to all site based staff which recognises outstanding team performance.
The RPP is paid on each 6 monthly milestone results; therefore half of the above payment is paid at the end of the milestone for which this performance is achieved. The RPP gives staff an opportunity to substantially increase their take home pay.
The RPP emphasises the need for:
- more placements for disadvantaged job candidates
- greater team spirit, co-operation and focus
- financially recognises the team’s achievements
Fish philosophy
Our workplaces are places where having fun is part of the environment. All staff should be familiar with the Fish philosophy that The Salvation Army Employment Plus follows, based on the principles of:
- Choose your attitude
- Play
- Make their day
- Be there
Having fun at work can be seen as expressing our attitude to work, and to the delivery of excellence in terms of customer service. Implementing the Fish Philosophy involves activities and behaviours that are fair and reasonable in the context of our work environment, and never at the expense of, or endangering to, staff, candidates, or other visitors to our sites and offices.
Example: Practical jokes against a colleague or candidate would be inappropriate if the result is embarrassment, humiliation or suffering of any kind.
Example: Having a ‘casual clothes’ day within an office, with the donations going to a charitable cause, would be seen as an appropriate expression of the Fish Philosophy.

Salary packaging
The Salvation Army Employment Plus provides staff with the option of salary packaging. As we are a public benevolent institution you may salary package your income without the imposition of fringe benefits tax.
What’s in it for you? This allows you to maximise your take home salary by paying less income tax.
You can salary package an amount of your choice up to $15,450 (net value) in the period 1 April to 31 March of the following year. This amount is tax free and can be used on a variety of regular and non-regular items including:
Mortgage and personal loan repayments
Health insurance premiums
Rent
Groceries
Utility payments
Travel expenses
School fees
You also have the option of utilising a Salary Packaging Payment Card which operates in the same manner as a credit card. You nominate a fortnightly amount and the funds are placed on your Salary Packaging Payment Card.
FBT Free Benefits You may further utilise salary packaging by using your funds on benefit items that exempt or not subject to FBT because an employee could usually claim a tax deduction for the expense as an “otherwise deductible item”.
What this means is that you may salary package funds over $15,450 into non FBT items.
Examples are as follows:
- Disability/Income Protection Insurance
- Financial Counselling Fees
- Home Office / Working Facilities
- In-House Benefits
- Laptop or Notebook Computer
- Professional Memberships & Subscriptions
- Self Education Expenses
- Work Related Travel
This allows you to further reduce income tax.
Additional Superannuation You can include additional superannuation payments / contributions in your salary package. These payments are not subject FBT.
Please seek financial advice as to the benefits of salary packaging.

Work/life balance
Through our working hours policy, we aim to develop an environment which not only meets our service policy in respect to meeting the needs of unemployed people and employers, but also create working arrangements which accommodate the particular needs of our staff in respect to personal business and/or family needs.
We believe that these arrangements will create a more positive work/life balance environment and local arrangements can be made to accommodate any emergency or more regular absence needs, including meeting childcare requirements or attending to other family matters on an ad hoc basis.

Employee Assistance Program
The Salvation Army Employment Plus utilises the services of the OSA Group to provide staff with off-site confidential counselling service. The service does not replace any existing pastoral supports provided by The Salvation Army itself, however, it does provide further choices that staff can exercise when seeking assistance.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides assistance through short-term professional counselling and consulting for staff members who face problems of a personal, family related or employment nature. The EAP offers confidential and professional assistance that is voluntary and free of charge to the staff member. The EAP covers a wide variety of problems and concerns such as:
- Work related worries (conflict, change, etc.)
- Alcohol and other drug related problems
- Stress management
- Depression, anxiety
- Family and marital problems
- Grief
- Eating disorders
- Aged care (coping skills, guilt, etc.)
- Balancing family and work responsibilities
- Concerns about your children or family members
All OSA Group staff are professionally qualified psychologists or social workers with substantial experience in the provisions of EAPs. They are eligible for membership with the Australian Psychological Society or the Australian Association of Social Workers. The program is available to all full-time and part-time staff members of The Salvation Army Employment Plus.

Corporate wardrobe
An attractive mix-and-match corporate wardrobe has been designed by a leading Australian fashion house for The Salvation Army Employment Plus. Assistance is provided through a one-off subsidy of $500 plus GST to employees who have completed their probationary period.
The great advantage of the wardrobe is that you do not have to decide what to wear, laundering is tax deductible and it looks fantastic. A further subsidy is available for replacement items after two years from when your uniform was issued.

Professional and career development
The Salvation Army Employment Plus provides encouragement and support to staff undertaking training and education activities, which are relevant to the work they are involved in. This may extend to the provision of time off for examinations and seminars, flexibility in working hours and some financial support.
The Salvation Army Employment Plus encourages staff to apply for internal vacancies that arise from time to time. This provides staff an opportunity to progress their career with The Salvation Army Employment Plus and develop new and rewarding skills.
At The Salvation Army Employment Plus we recognise the importance of coaching and mentoring as both coaching and mentoring are encouraged within The Salvation Army Employment Plus. This approach allows individuals to develop on both a personal and professional basis.
