Job interview FAQ'S

These are the sorts of questions you can expect when you attend a job interview. It’s a good idea to write down answers to these questions, and practice out loud, before each interview.

Q. Why do you want to work for this company?

Show them that you know and care about what they do, and that you have done your homework into the company and the role.

Q. What kind of job do you hope to hold five years from now?

Talk about your motivation, your ability to think and plan, what you value, and your commitment to the company.

Q. What qualifications do you have which will make you successful in this field?

Highlight education, experience, interests, hobbies, special knowledge – anything relating to the role.

Q. What did you like most/least about your old job?

Show them that you actually enjoy using the skills they need. Avoid being negative – have a constructive answer prepared.

Q. What is your major strength?

Show them that you have what they need (remember, this may not necessarily be your ability, but could be attitude, motivation, etc.)

Q. What is your major weakness?

Everyone has one! Try to select a weakness that has little impact on the main features of the position and then convince them that it will not interfere with the role.

Q. If you were me, why would you employ yourself?

Show off your special abilities, skills and your knowledge of what the employer needs.

Q. What are your ideas on salary?

Do your research into industry norms and your worth in such a role, and state your answer confidently.

Q. If you could design your own job, what would your duties be?

Talk about all the ideal qualities you think the role requires, and link them to your own strengths and capabilities.

Q. Do you have any questions?

This is a chance to show that you have done your research and preparation for the interview.
