Interested in aged care?
The Salvation Army Employment Plus have recognised the need for qualified care workers in a growing industry and are offering unemployed people the skills and qualifications they need to prepare them for employment in this rewarding career.
We offer a Certificate III in Aged Care course in collaboration with several local TAFE providers. The course runs for a total of 13 weeks with 10 weeks theory and 3 weeks practical experience.

Q. What knowledge and skills do I gain?
Training is given on a variety of areas such as
- Personal care – showering, dressing, toileting, grooming
- Administering and supervising medication
- Documentation on clients care needs and care plans
- Occupational Safety and Health including manual handling
- Specific knowledge and understanding of Dementia
- Senior 1st Aid, etc.
Assessments are flexible and may include practical observation, written or verbal.
Q. Why aged care?
Do you feel or sense you have a connection with the elderly? Do you enjoy their company and stories? Does this give you satisfaction, a feeling of self worth?
Q. What experience is necessary to do the training?
Registered with The Salvation Army, Year 10 is preferred but not necessary.
Q. How long is the training to gain the certificate?
10 weeks theory based in a class room setting, plus 3 or 4 weeks practical hands on work experience in a Residential Aged Care Setting and or elderly peoples homes.
Q. What are the employment opportunities?
As the population is living longer the need for carers increases. Employment can be in
- A high care facility (nursing home)
- Low care facility (hostel)
- CACP Community Aged Care Package
- HACC – Home and Community Care
- Providing care in the community could include people own homes, retirement villages, etc.
Q. What career path opportunities are available?
You can continue studying to become a therapy assistant, or bridging to enrolled and registered nursing.
