How often do you log onto social media every day? Two times, three times… maybe even more! In 2018, it’s safe to say your customers are doing the same thing. Social media is how many of your clients want to communicate with your business. We’ve provided some tips on setting up a social media page, so you don’t get left behind. These instructions are useful for a new Facebook Page, Instagram Page or Twitter account, but can be applied to most social media mediums.
Figure out what you want
What is the purpose of your social media page? Is it to attract new customers or to stay in touch with current customers? Is it to promote new products or sing out about events? Once you have figured this out, you’ll find it easier to determine what sort of content you should be posting.
Think about your followers
How old are they? Where do they live? What do they want from your business? Your profile photo, banner photo and the words you write should be tailored to your followers. If you don’t think they will enjoy it, be informed by it or engage with it – don’t post it.
Did you know that your followers may not necessarily see everything you post? The algorithm that your social media platform uses may decide not to show your posts to all your followers. The best way to combat this is to post relevant content frequently. As a guide, post once to twice a day on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn or send 15 Tweets or Retweets on Twitter per day.
People on social media expect quick responses to their messages. Consider installing an app on your phone to handle incoming enquiries and be aware – you may get questions and comments outside of work hours. Come up with a strategy to deal with these comments – consider using an auto-responder to let your customer know you will reply soon.
Familiarise yourself with the apps available to help you manage your social media page. Primarily, you will want an app that allows you to schedule your posts at a predetermined time. This will allow you the freedom to line up your social media content in advance, allowing you to focus on other areas of your business.
