SSH-Launch

The Salvation Army Employment Plus officially launched its Smart, Skilled and Hired Youth Employment program on Tuesday 5 September – and it is already successfully finding young people jobs.

Smart, Skilled and Hired Youth Employment helps young people (aged 15 – 24) to kickstart a fulfilling career by connecting participants to mentoring, work experience placements and other support, to build their skills and experience.

Smart, Skilled and Hired Youth Employment is a new NSW Government-funded program to help young people (aged 15 – 24) to kickstart a fulfilling career by connecting participants to mentoring, work experience placements and other support, to build their skills and experience.

In the first two weeks of the NSW Department of Industry program, Employment Plus has had 34 young people register to participate.

Already, ten local youth have been placed into employment, in jobs ranging from panel beating, food services, delivery driving, retail and more, supporting local business in the Central Coast and Hunter regions.

The launch was attended by the Regional Director for the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet – Office of Regional Development Tony Sansom OAM, State Member for Charlestown Jodie Harrison, Lake Macquarie City Council Community Planner – Youth and Safer Communities, Tony Ellitt, Smart Skilled and Hired service delivery partners, and local community representatives.

“A job is about so much more than a weekly paycheck. It’s a sense of identity and a source of confidence. It’s a reason to get out of bed in the morning. It’s the start of a life-long learning experience. And it’s the beginning of a life where employment is valued and a dependency on welfare isn’t contemplated,” said Managing Director of The Salvation Army Employment Plus, Greg Moult.

“We have some of the best youth consultants in the country, and I know they will provide support, guidance, motivation and a way forward to the local youth when they need it most,” he said.

The Salvation Army Employment Plus is offering the Smart, Skilled and Hired Youth Employment in the Central Coast and Hunter regions of New South Wales.
