Employment is great way to keep yourself occupied (and cash positive). Although many of us have been forced out of work by the pandemic, plenty of hands are still required in some industries.
The Salvation Army Employment Plus has identified seven different industries that are still going strong even throughout all the lockdowns. In fact, these were our top job placement categories last month.
Some of these jobs can be done remotely, while others will give you a chance to get out and about while also helping the community get back on its feet.
1. Healthcare and Social Assistance
It’s no surprise that in the midst of a pandemic, we need people to help care for and mobilise people living with health issues; both Covid and non-Covid related. We also need people to help keep our places of treatment sanitised and operational. When cases spike, all areas of the health system are put under pressure. Could you be part of the solution?
2. Accommodation and Food Services
While in some states restaurant services are not available, people still want to enjoy their favourite cuisines. Businesses have pivoted their offerings and may be looking for extra hands in the kitchen to prepare specific foods, meet takeaway demand, or to assist with extra hygiene measures.
3. Administrative and support services
Always the wind beneath our wings, great admin and support people make a world of difference to a business. With remote working adding to the layer of administration, having good organisers has never been in more demand.
4. Manufacturing
People still need ‘stuff’, and with international supply chains being interrupted by the pandemic, our local manufacturing industries are working overtime. If you’re practical and good with your hands, you’re needed.
5. Construction
Similarly, this is a great time for construction projects to forge ahead and local developers are moving at pace. If your skill set or interests exist in this space you will find a wealth of opportunity awaits.
6. Retail Trade
Essential services like supermarkets, groceries, pharmacies and markets are still in operation and needing workers to meet shoppers’ demands on a daily basis.
7. Transport, Postal and Warehousing
Finally, with the rise in people at home has come a meteoric rise in online shopping. Somebody needs to process, send or move all that shopping and plenty of jobs are on offer in the freight and logistics space.
