Truck drivers facilitate the delivery of goods, often over long distances, and sometimes in large, heavy vehicles.

Common duties
- Manoeuvring vehicles for loading and unloading
- Delivering goods, whilst determining the most effective route to travel
- Undertaking regular safety and quality checks of vehicles, to make sure they are safe to be on the road
- Ensuring goods are securely stowed, so they can be delivered safely
- Verifying load documents, checking the condition of goods and receiving confirmation of deliveries
Experience and qualifications
- No formal qualifications are required to work as a truck driver, however a driver’s license is essential, and other tickets, checks and licenses can help your application, such as:
- Special licenses for transporting dangerous substances, certain types of loads etc.
- Construction induction card (white card)
- Forklift license
- Manual driver’s license
- Medium rigid (MR) driver’s license
- Heavy rigid (HR) driver’s license
- National police check
- Medical test
- Psychometric or aptitude tests
