Working out has many health benefits. It’s an important foundation for feeling better for longer by improving your strength and mental health. But gyms are expensive, and, in our cost -of-living crisis, cheap short cuts are essential. Staying active doesn’t have to mean expensive gym memberships. With a few free tools and a bit of creativity, you can exercise at home or outside, for free!

1. Free Apps for Workouts

  • Nike Training Club: offers beginner to advanced workouts, including strength, yoga, and cardio.
  • FitOn: free workouts you can do at home with little or no equipment.

  • Yoga With Adriene: free yoga sessions for beginners and beyond.
  • Dance workout videos: listen to your favourite songs and feel good.

3. Get Moving Outdoors

  • Take a walk or jog in local parks, beaches, or trails.
  • Turn errands into exercise: walk or cycle instead of driving.
  • Join local walking groups or free community fitness events.
  • Using a skipping rope is a quick and easy way to get some cardio in!

4. Simple Home Workouts

  • Bodyweight exercises: squats, lunges, push-ups, planks.
  • Use household items: backpacks as weights, stairs for cardio.
  • Stretch during TV breaks or while waiting for your laundry.

Tip: Start small, even 5 minutes a day helps. Combine apps, YouTube videos, and outdoor walks to create a routine you enjoy. Staying active can be easy, free, and fun!
