Indigenous team cleans up job placements on offer at Brisbane hospital

Last updated: March 5, 2025

A partnership between Compass Group Australia and Employment Plus has enabled six Indigenous job seekers to successfully gain employment at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

The candidates all completed a Certificate III in Cleaning Operations and then partnered with existing employees to put their classroom skills to work and receive further on the job support and training.

Creating these job opportunities is part of Compass Group’s Project 1050 commitment – a comprehensive recruitment effort aimed at hiring an additional 1,050 Indigenous jobseekers.

The company currently has 420 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and provides training and upskilling programs to hundreds more annually as part of its long-standing Indigenous engagement program.

Compass Group’s Senior Indigenous Training & Employment Coordinator, Emily Tanna, approached Employment Plus earlier this year to assist with the recruitment initiative at the Hospital.

“I was keen to work with a jobactive provider who had access to a pool of candidates and could select people best suited for the roles,” explained Emily.

“Matt and the Employment Plus Team excelled in this way – they were right on target providing a great range of people for us to interview.

“We appreciate the support Employment Plus continues to provide. We know that mentoring, both in the pre-employment and early employment phase, has a direct influence on retention of new Aboriginal employees, so working with a jobactive provider that also appreciates this will be key to the our success going forward, ” Emily said.

Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital is the major specialist paediatric hospital for Queensland. Compass Group’s Medirest business provides facilities management services at the Hospital, which includes everything from catering to building and grounds maintenance and security services.
