Plan ahead.
That's the simple message ahead of Easter from authorities. Major supermarkets, bottle shops and retailers will be operating under reduced hours - and strict road rules in force. Daylight saving will also be a factor in some states.
Double demerits in force
Double demerit points will apply in NSW, the ACT and Western Australia from 12:01am on Thursday, April 2, to 11:59pm on Monday, April 6.
Queensland does not have a traditional double demerit holiday period, but its year-round system means repeat offences - including mobile phone use, seatbelt breaches and high-level speeding - can still attract doubled penalties within 12 months.
And as millions prepare to travel, new research has identified the country's most dangerous roads.
Queensland's Bruce Highway ranked third, while New South Wales accounted for four of the top 10: the Pacific, Princes, Hume and Great Western highways.
Store closures
Coles
All Coles supermarkets will be closed on Good Friday, except for select stores in South Australia (Victor Harbor, Murray Bridge Green, Mount Barker).
Stores will reopen on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday with reduced trading hours, before returning to normal operations on Easter Monday.
ALDI
ALDI stores will be closed on Good Friday, with trading hours varying across the remainder of the long weekend.
Some stores in NSW, Queensland and South Australia will also close on Easter Sunday.
Customers are advised to check local store hours.
Woolworths
Most Woolworths supermarkets will be closed on Good Friday except Mt Barker, Mount Barker South and Murray Bridge Marketplace, Victor Harbor in South Australia.
Stores will reopen on Easter Saturday and Easter Monday, typically with reduced public holiday hours. But most metro stores will be closed.
Easter Sunday will see most Woolworths stores closed as well.
BWS and Dan Murphy's
BWS will have limited stores open on Good Friday in South Australia, with most stores reopening across the weekend with reduced hours.
Dan Murphy's stores will be closed on Good Friday, open as normal on Saturday, mostly open on Sunday (excluding Cellar stores), and trading from 10am to 7pm on Monday.
Bunnings
Bunnings stores will be generally closed on Good Friday but will reopen across the rest of the weekend with reduced hours. Customers should check local store details.
Liquorland
Liquorland stores nationwide will be closed on Good Friday, with the exception of Abbotsford in Victoria and select stores in Tasmania.
All stores will open on Easter Saturday.
On Easter Sunday, stores will be open except for several locations in South Australia - including Parkholme, Greenacres and Marion.
On Easter Monday, most stores will trade, with further closures across multiple South Australian locations including Norwood, North Adelaide and McLaren Vale.
Changed trading hours will apply over the Easter weekend at supermarkets.
Daylight savings
Daylight saving will come to an end in parts of Australia this weekend, giving residents an extra hour of sleep.
Clocks will be turned back by one hour at 3am on Sunday, April 5, returning to 2am in states and territories that observe daylight saving - New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT.
The change does not apply in Queensland, Western Australia or the Northern Territory, where daylight saving is not observed.
Daylight saving traditionally ends on the first Sunday in April each year and will resume on October 4, 2026.
