Workforce Australia Survey - Your thoughts on our job

We work to get you work – so from time to time we also ask you what you think of the job we’re doing.

In November last year we surveyed a number of you to get more understanding around your needs and how you felt the Workforce Australia Program through The Salvation Army Employment Plus was serving you.

Pleasingly – when asking survey participants how much they would recommend our service, the average score was an 8 out of 10. We know we’re not perfect – no one is – but we are proud that the majority saw value in our support.

Around 80% of those who responded had interacted with us in the three months leading up to the survey period, which suggests that connecting with us will be a key determining factor on getting the most out of our program.

We asked what kind of work participants were looking for and the most popular roles were retail, admin, healthcare and transport. Trades and warehousing remain popular vocations.

It was interesting to find that two thirds of respondents were referred to Employment Plus by Centrelink and a third selected their job service provider. Of those respondents who chose us themselves around 40% did so because of the location of our office being close by, but another 40% elected Employment Plus because of the broad range of support services we are able to offer as part of The Salvation Army family.

We strive to be able to offer highly-personalised and an understanding service, to support all Workforce Australia participants, including the 24% of respondents who told us they were living with a mental or chronic illness. These are important things to consider and support job seekers with as they strive to find work that provides them more freedom but does not hinder recovery or wellbeing.

We were pleased our efforts to care reflected in 80% of respondents believing we understood the individual needs of participants and 90% felt Employment Plus helped people understand their obligations for the Workforce Australia program. And while sometimes we may not find the ideal job straight away – and just need work to pay the bills – it was great to hear that 67% of survey participants thought we could find appropriate roles to apply for. Hang tight if the right thing hasn’t come along just yet – it will. Don’t forget to check out our job board to see if the right position for you already exists.

Of course, in these trying economic times, it is no surprise that the biggest motivators for job seekers is financial security, independence and less worry. Whether you’re looking for full time work – or two roles to maximise your earnings while enabling flexibility (see here for an article on how to manage tax and benefit obligations with more than one job) – we wish you the best of luck on your road to success.
