Working as a Delivery Driver

Delivery drivers, also called van drivers, deliver goods from one organisation or individual, to another.

With the rise of home deliveries and ‘convenience shopping’, there’s plenty of work available, so there’s never a better time to explore this occupation.

Common duties

  • Manoeuvring vehicles for packing and unpacking
  • Verifying and handling documents
  • Determining the most appropriate delivery routes, to deliver the goods
  • Ensuring that vehicle maintenance needs are documented and reported
  • Handling payments and issuing invoices

Experience and qualifications

  • No formal qualifications are required to work as a delivery driver, however a driver’s license is essential, and other tickets, checks and licenses can help your application, such as:
    • Forklift license
    • Manual drivers license
    • Medium rigid (MR) driver’s license
    • Heavy rigid HR driver’s license
    • National police check
    • Psychometric or aptitude tests
